During the last edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), Touch2See reached a new milestone by deploying the solution outside France for the first time in its history.
We were proud to cover two key matches in the competition: Egypt vs Ghana on the second day of the group stages, and South Africa vs DR Congo in the third-place play-off. These matches offered visually impaired and blind African fans a unique opportunity to follow Africa’s biggest competition using our immersive touchscreen tablets.
Hand-in-hand deployment with TotalEnergies
Our involvement in the African Cup of Nations (CAN) has been made possible and enriched by close collaboration with TotalEnergies, the official partner of this major event. This association has played a crucial role in realising our shared vision of making the CAN a pioneering competition in terms of accessibility and inclusion in the world of football.
Thanks to the support of TotalEnergies, we have made every effort to offer fans an unforgettable experience. Their help has been essential in integrating our assistive technology into the stadiums, ensuring that every fan, regardless of their visual disability, can follow every action of the game like any other fan.
An ongoing commitment
One of the spectators present was Yvan Wouandji, the famous French international cecifoot player, who attended one of the key matches. He emphasised the significant impact of this initiative on the blind and partially-sighted community. Yvan shared his enthusiastic impressions: “We need to encourage this type of initiative, which is essential. We live in a society where we need to encourage people to live together,… and this technology makes a major contribution to that objective.”
This collaboration with TotalEnergies and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) demonstrates that football is indisputably a universal sport. By making the game accessible to the visually impaired, we are opening up the possibility for everyone to share fully in the excitement and emotion of football. Sport transcends all barriers, be they geographical, cultural or sensory. At Touch2See, we are determined to continue working to push back the boundaries of accessibility, affirming our commitment to a truly inclusive sporting experience for all.
